MASTERING POINT OF VIEW:
A Two Part Seminar for Writers

If you're a writer, you probably know SOMETHING about first and third person point of view (POV) and when to use them. But what about the unreliable narrator? Second person ("you") form? And fourth person perspective ("we" form)?

In this two-part class taught by award-winning instructor Alexander Weinstein, you'll learn how to identify and use the most effective voice to tell your stories, whether you write short stories, novels, creative non-fiction, memoir or other types of prose. Participants will also:

  • Look at short stories written from each perspective
  • Explore the benefits and limitations of each
  • Practice using various points of view
  • Experiment with perspectives not commonly seen.

Instructor: Alexander Weinstein directs the Martha's Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing and teaches creative writing at Siena Heights University. His short stories have appeared in Pleiades, Notre Dame Review, The MacGuffin, Sou'Wester, Zahir and other publications.

Dates: Two Saturdays, September 17 and October 1, 2011

Time: 10am to 1pm

Location: Chelsea Center for the Arts, 400 Congdon St. in Chelsea

Fee: $100 for the two-part series
