SNEAK PREVIEW: Jazz for Seniors

Special sneak preview of Jazz & Chocolates! Student musicians from the Chelsea Center for the Arts perform jazz and popular standards from the 20th century. Guests are invited to share their favorite jazz stories and recollections in this intergenerational concert. FREE and open to all seniors. Held at Silver Maples (Maple Room)
James Dapogny's Jazz Band

Acclaimed bandleader and jazz pianist James Dapogny brings his red hot jazz band to Chelsea in a scholarship fundraiser concert for the Chelsea Center for the Arts. As the headliner artist in CCA's Jazz and Chocolates weekend, James Dapogny's Jazz Band will kick off the weekend's activities with this benefit concert. Opening for Dapogny will be the Chelsea High School Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Rick Catherman. Held at Chelsea High School Auditorium. Tickets are $7.50 students/seniors; $10 individual; $25 family—advance ticket sales at CCA and tickets will be sold at the door.

Jazz for Kids

10 AM-1 PM
Enjoy FREE jazz classes and performances, for and by kids. Held at Chelsea District Library (McKune Room).
- 10:00-10:45 AM: Jazz Jam, Jr .— Kids ages 3-6 will enjoy a jazz story, songs and improvisation in this lively workshop with Chelsea Center for the Arts’ music instructor Tara Vesprini.
- 11:00-11:45 AM: Jazz Jam — Kids ages 7-11 will create syncopated rhythms and jazz riffs in this dynamic workshop. Discover the fun of improvisation with Chelsea Center for the Arts’ music instructor Tara Vesprini.
- Noon-1:00 PM: Standards from the American Songbook — Elementary and middle school voice and guitar students from the Chelsea Center for the Arts perform popular and jazz standards from the 20th century, together with instructors Lisa Hinz-Johnson and Alex Anest.
Jazz & Chocolates at the Chelsea Depot

CCA advanced voice and guitar students join instructors Lisa Hinz-Johnson and Alex Anest in an evening full of hot and cool jazz with all the decadent chocolate treats you can eat. Included in the evening are performances by the Michigan Pops Choir and the vocal trio White Chocolate. There will be a raffle and silent auction later in the evening, with all proceeds from the event going toward the CCA tuition and scholarship assistance fund. Limited tickets available — suggested donation of $10-$20 per person. Contact CCA at (734) 433-2787 to purchase tickets.
