A free Comic Event for all ages.

In partnership with the Chelsea District Library (CDL), with support from Friends of CDL.

CCA Celebrates Jazz!

May 20-21, 2011

CCA collaborates with the Chelsea District Library and Silver Maples in this celebration of all things jazz. Celebrate Jazz! combines a lively variety of music, jazz inspired raffle items, great food, and hands-on jazz jams. The highlight of the week is a student and faculty performance at Silver Maples, to benefit the CCA Scholarship and Tuition Assistance program.

Jazz Bites—Friday, May 20, 6-8:30pm, Silver Maples—Picking up where Jazz & Chocolates left off, CCA students and faculty entertain with Jazz tunes and American standards, accompanied by mouth-watering, jazz-themed food. There will be an raffle featuring music-related items, with all proceeds from the evening to benefit the CCA Student Scholarship and Tuition Assistance fund.

Jazz for Kids—Saturday, May 21, Chelsea District Library, McKune Room
Jazz Jam, Jr. TWO SESSIONS!—10:00-10:45am (3-6 years old) & 11:00-11:45 am(6 - 9 years old) Children will enjoy a jazz story, songs and improvisation in these lively workshops with Chelsea Center for the Arts’ music instructor Tara Vesprini.

Join our blossoming choir's celebration of nature! We will sing in spring with environmentally conscious tunes and premiere our earthy original songs. Do you love comics? Learn about visual storytelling by making a poster. We’ll use composition, color and exciting imagery to create a poster about our summer spectacular, Kids Read Comics! All posters will be displayed in store windows in downtown Chelsea—where will your poster go? This is a joint program of the Chelsea Center for the Arts and the Chelsea District Library.

 

CCA's Annual Clean-up Day and Artisan Garage Sale

Saturday, April 30, 9am-3pm

 

Come help us take care of our historic building as we tend to the landscaping and spring cleaning. Refreshments will be served.Also, bring your unwanted art supplies to sell or swap at our Artisan Garage Sale, where other secondhand art and music-related items will be on sale. All are welcome!!

3rd Annual Midwest Literary Walk - a free community event

Followed by Afterglow Party @ River Gallery, 6:30pm

The 3rd Annual Midwest Literary Walk aims to highlight the power of literature and poetry in everyday life. To accomplish this, the event takes to the streets with a duo of readers at various downtown Chelsea locations. As always, this event features a lineup of writers of a high caliber and quality: Scott Beal, Bonnie Jo Campbell, Laura Kasischke*, Jeff Kass, Zilka Joseph, ML Liebler*, Bonnie Rose Marcus and Keith Taylor. The Chelsea Children’s Choir Presents: Voices For Water

Travel the world through water with the newest ensemble from the Chelsea Center for the Arts! These talented young singers bring you a unique charity event to aid the millions who have no access to clean drinking water. The evening includes an eclectic mix of music from cultures all around the globe. Water-themed artwork from our talented After School Art Club students will also be on display, along with pieces created by members of the Choir specifically for this cause. A selection of these will be donated to a silent auction to further benefit the charity. www.charitywater.org

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to support our childrens' choir concert Voices for Water earlier this month. (The children performed beautifully and raised $656 for Charity:Water!! 8th grader Hannah Moore who assists Choir Director Sarah Price with the 25-strong choir, wrote a narrative that she read during the concert, and we'd like to give you a chance to read it here: Hannah's Narrative

Get started on your yearly chocolate consumption in a big way on Saturday, February 12th! Chelsea, Michigan, is having our 3rd annual Chocolate Extravaganza from 10 am – 5 pm to celebrate Valentine's Day.

What better way to start the year off right than bringing friends to Chelsea and celebrating two of chocolate's benefits: lowering your blood pressure and releasing serotonin to make you feel happy!

Over 30 local businesses will offer sales, discounts, freebies, and, of course, chocolate in all kinds of shapes and sizes. Look for stores and restaurants throughout town with the Chocolate Extravaganza flyer on their door.
