Rare Earth
Rare Earth began in 1961 as a group of Detroit area high school buddies performing as “the Sunliners.”
Their style evolved from the R&B roots of the popular Motown music they played in clubs. In 1968 the group changed its name to Rare Earth and became the first white band to sign with Motown Records. At a time when Motown was known for producing music for black audiences, Rare Earth's first record, “Get Ready” sold more than 2 million copies and gave the label a crossover hit.
Rare Earth has played with Jimi Hendrix, Sly and the Family Stone, and Ike and Tina Turner, and its concerts are stand-up-and-dance events that feature classics like “Get Ready,” “Tobacco Road” and “I just want to Celebrate.” In 1994 they released their first studio recorded album in 17 years called “Different World” on the Koch International label.
Howling Diablos
The Howling Diablos rockin', funky, blues jam style is well known in the Detroit area, and everywhere they have toured, as a great live music experience. Since their formation in the 1990’s they have toured with and opened for acts including George Clinton’s Parliament Funkadelic, Alice Cooper, Albert Collins, Ben Harper, Hank Williams Jr, NRBQ, Incubus and The James Gang as well as headlining their own shows. Their recordings include “Beatnik Mambo,” “Live,” and the local hit “Green Bottle.” The Howling Diablos' latest album, 'Car Wash' won the “Best National Indie Release” award at the 2006 Detroit Music Awards in the Outstanding National Small/Independent Label Recording category.
